My Professional Training and Experience
After completing a science degree at Melbourne University, in human physiology, neuroscience and biochemistry, I began my career teaching science, biology and chemistry to secondary school students. After several years, I transitioned into the field of Special Education to work as a secondary teacher at the Royal Children’s Hospital School. Later I joined the extension education, team at Melbourne Museum and took on the role of Education Coordinator for the Human Mind and Body Gallery and I remained in this role for ten years. I continue to draw on the knowledge, expertise and experience gained from my work as an educator, trainer and lecturer with diverse audiences, students of all ages, teachers and other professionals across the education sector.
During this time, I pursued an academic interest in natural medicine, and successfully completed studies to become a clinical practitioner of naturopathy, herbal medicine and functional nutrition. After opening my own practice and working with clients as a Naturopath for several years, I could competently conceptualise and apply the holistic and integrative framework to treat many different and complex conditions. However, I was also drawn in to observe the extent to which individual psychology influences our health and can limit healing. I wanted to understand this aspect of the human condition more deeply, to help myself and my clients achieve health and wellbeing in a more conscious, holistic and integrative way.
I enrolled and completed training in depth oriented psychodynamic psychotherapy, focusing on the humanistic and experiential method and principles of Analytical Psychology, described by Carl Jung. Later, I completed a Graduate Diploma and Masters Degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy, developing a comprehensive platform of psychological theory and processing interventions. I completed my final research thesis focusing on experiential process of self discovery and therapeutic change, using the experiential processes of Jungian Sandplay Therapy.
For the last twelve years, I have run a successful holistic and integrative healthcare clinic, offering a unique array of services in: Naturopathy and Counselling Psychotherapy. This unique array of modalities caters for a full spectrum of physical, psychological and spiritual concerns that people regularly seek help and therapeutic advise for. I have continued to work as a lecturer at Endeavour College of Natural Health, providing education and mentoring services to training natural health practitioners. I am also a trained clinical supervisor and continue to provide professional supervision and mentoring for practising counsellors and psychotherapist.
